they {false teachers}
constantly
preach eloquently
and
bombastically {phtheggomai - same as the dumb ass above} . . . with
great swelling words
{pompous, verbose, long syllable words, over-weight -
not Koine or common language}
from
the source of 'the vacuum in the soul' {mataiotes} . . .
they
keep on enticing/beguiling/attracting
by
means of 'the lusts of the flesh' {Old Sin Nature} . . .
by
means of lasciviousness
{parallelism - means their words titillate the soul as lasciviousness
titillates the body} . . .
those
scarcely escaping from them
having
a pattern of life in the sphere of error
{missing all of the three anchors above}.
{Note: When the soul is missing doctrine a vacuum opens up and false doctrine pours in. This vacuum is called in the Greek 'mataiotes'.}
{Study
of the enslavement of these false teachers}
19~~While
they promise them freedom {eleutheria},
they
themselves are in the permanent status
of
the slaves of corruption
{the old sin nature with emphasis on the corruption -
lust pattern in view here} . . .
for
by whom anyone has been defeated,
than
by the same, he has been enslaved.
{Note: Eleutheria is the most alluring and enticing form of freedom, but it is a freedom with responsibilities attached (military service, obey the law, etc) but the false teachers de-emphasize the responsibilities and attack the laws of establishment.}
20~~
For if
having
escaped the defilements/pollutions of the cosmos/ world
-
and they have -
by
means of
the
epignosis knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . . .
AGAIN
{after emotional revolt of the soul}
having
become involved/entangled therein
{listen to the false teachers} . . .
they
are defeated
{into the slavery of the false teaching} . . .
the
latter end has become worse
{with permanent results}
than
the first
{a danger to the nation - now anti-establishment}.
{Note: This is the 'dog returning to his vomit' analogy (restated in verse 22). First you hear false teachers say promoting revolution and you reject it as an unbeliever with strong teaching in the laws of establishment. If you hear the gospel presented and reject it, you go into reversionism as an unbeliever. Unbelievers have an equivalent to the 'edification complex of the soul' that the believer has to protect him. This set of norms and standards in his conscious protect him from much evil and is why some unbelievers will fight and die for their countries. But IF you hear the gospel and reject it, the complex is torn away and the NEXT time you hear the false teaching you will accept it - the dog returning to his vomit to eat on it again! Now he is a worse unbeliever then he was before - at least he was pro-establishment before!}
21~~For
it would have kept on been better for them
not
to have fully known {epiginosko}
the
way of righteousness . . .
than,
having
fully known
{the epignosis of the gospel message} . . .
to
turn away from the holy commandment . . .
having
been delivered {paradidomi}
to
them - for their advantage.
{Note: The Holy Spirit make the issue of the gospel clear to these unbelievers and they of their own free will, reject the message - the ONLY sin on which the Holy Spirit convicts. Jesus did NOT die on the cross for the sin of unbelief.}
{Note: Paradidomi means to 'turn over' or deliver to someone. Also used for betray because you are turning someone over to someone else.}
{His
and her examples of reversionism}
22~~But
it has happened to them
and
keeps on happening
in
the future for ever and ever . . .
then
according to the true proverb {Proverbs 26:11},
"The
male dog . . . having returned to his own vomit.
And
the sow . . . having received a washing . . .
returns
to her wallowing in the mire {borboros}."
{Note: The vomit is rejecting of false doctrine. Now he is returning to eat it again in reversionism.}
{Note: Borboros was a phonetic word that included all 'yucky' things: mud, vomit, sewage, etc are included in this word. From this word the Greeks got 'Barbarians'.}
