Job

Chapter 09
{Chapters 4-14: The First Debate}
{Chapters 8-10: Debate with Bildad -
  Job's Response in Chapters 9-10}
{No Believer can Argue the Facts with God -
  He Already Has all the Facts}
{Verses 1-13: One Can Not Fight God}
1~~Then Job replied and said, 2~~
"Indeed, I know {yada`} that this is true {'omnam},
but how can a man
be righteous {tsadaq}
before God/'El?

3~~Though one wished to contend with Him,
he could not answer Him one time out of a thousand.

4~~{God is} Wise {chakam} in mentality/heart/'right lobe',
and mighty {'ammiyts} in strength { koach}.

Who has resisted/hardened Him
and came out unscathed?

5~~He moves mountains,
without their knowing it
and overturns them in His anger.

6~~He shakes the earth from her place,
and makes the pillars tremble.

7~~He commands the sun, and it does not shine
and 'seal up'/'seals up the light of' the stars.

8~~He alone streatches out the heavens,
and treads upon the waves of the sea.

9~~He is the maker
of the Bear/Arcturus {`Ayish - Great Bear Constellation},
and the Lion/Orion {K@ciyl},
and Pleiades {Kiymah - a seven star constellation},
and the constellations of the south.

10~~He performs wonders that can not be fathomed,
miracles that can not be numbered.

11~~When He passes me, I can not see Him.

When He goes by, I can not perceive Him.

12~~If He snatches away . . . who can stop Him?

Who can say to Him, What are you doing?

13~~God/'Elowahh does not restrain His anger,
even the cohorts of Rahab {`azar rahab - a famous Egyptian army}
cower at His Feet.

14~~How can I {Job} dispute with Him?

How can I find words {dabar}
to argue with Him?

15~~Though I am innocent/righteous,
I can not answer Him,
I can only plead with my Judge for mercy.

16~~Even if I summoned Him and He respond,
I do not believe that He is going to give me a hearing.

17-18``Though He keeps on breaking me
with a storm/tempest,
and multiplies my wounds without reason/cause, 18``
He will not grant/give me
to take my breath/spirit {ruwach},
but causes me to be filled/satiated with bitterness.

19``If {I speak of} . . . strength, he is strong.

And if of judgment,
who shall schedule/set me a time {to plead}?

20``If I 'claim righteousness'/justify myself,
my own mouth shall condemn me.

If I say, I am perfect,
it shall also prove me perverse/crooked.

21~~Although I {Job} am blameless,
I have no concern for myself/'my own soul' {nephesh}
I despise my own life {chay}.

22~~It is all the same.
That is why I say,
'He destroys both the blameless and the wicked.'

23~~When a scourge brings sudden death,
He mocks the despair of the innocent.

24~~A land falls into the hands of the wicked.

He blindfolds the judges thereof.

If it is not He, then who is it?

{Note: Job is still failing at this point. He is wrong when he says the first part. So, Job now takes a pause between verses 24 and 25 and starts to realize that there is need in his life to come up to snuff with this suffering in his life because he knows it is undeserved suffering.}

25~~My days are swifter than a runner.

They fly away without a glimpse
  {meaning without a glimpse of happiness now - self-pity}.

26~~They {his days} pass by as 'ships of papyrus'/'fast ships' . . .
as the eagle that darts to the prey.

27-28``Though I say, I will forget my complaint and
though I forsake my face, and smile, 28``
I fear {because} . . . of my wounds/sorrows.

I know that you will not find me innocent.

29``If I be wicked, why do I then labor in futility?

30-31``If I wash myself with snow water,
and make my hands never so clean, 31``
yet you will plunge me in the ditch,
and my own clothes shall abhor me.

{Job Recognizes that God is Not a Man}
32~~For He {God} is not a man, like me,
that I might answer Him,
that we might confront each other in court.

33~~If there was only someone to umpire/'mediate between us' . . .
someone who can lay his hand on both of us.

{Note: If you are going to have a face to face trial, you need a mediator. God is perfect. Man is perfect. The mediator must be equal with God AND equal with mankind. So, mankind needs a perfect man to be the mediator. Jesus Christ as the only perfect man, is the mediator making intercession for us daily before the Father.}

34~~Someone to remove His rod from me,
so that His terror would frighten me no more.

35~~Then I would speak up without fear of Him,
but as it now stands, I can not.
