Chapter 40
{Closing Dialog between God and Job}

{Verses 1-2: God's Opening Statement}
1-2~~Jehovah/God said to Job 2~~
"Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?

Let him who accuses God/'Elowahh answer me."

{Note: All the illustrations in the previous two Chapters was to bring Job to this point. This is the summary question.}

{Verses 3-5: Job's Humble Response}
3-4``Then Job said in reply to Jehovah/God, 4``
"See, I am of small worth . . .

what can I answer You?

I clap my hand to my mouth
  {idiom meaning he has nothing to say to this - God is right and Job
  knows it}.

5`` I have spoken once, and I will not reply . . .

twice {I spoke} . . . and will do so no more.

{Verses 6 through Chapter 41: God's Illustration - From the Storm}
6-7~~Jehovah/God spoke to Job out of the storm, and said, 7~~

"Brace yourself like a man.

I will question you and you shall answer me.

8~~Would you discredit my justice?

Would you condemn Me . . . to justify yourself?

9~~Do you have an arm like God's/'El's?

And your voice thunder like His?

10~~Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor

and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.

11~~Unleash the fury of your wrath.

Look at every proud man and bring him low.

12~~Look at every proud man and humble him
  {note that the sin God addresses is the great sin of arrogance - the
  worst of all sins!}.

Crush the wicked where they stand.

13~~Bury them all in the dust together.

Shroud their faces in the grave.

14~~Then I Myself {God} will admit to you

that your own right hand can save you {sarcasm}.

{Note: There is absolutely no way that Job can control the universe!}

{Verses 15-24: The One Who Created the Behemoth/Hippo Is Not Subject to the Judgment of Man}
15``Behold now the hippopotamus/Behemoth . . .

which I made along with you.

He eats grass like the cattle.

16``His strength is in his loins.

His might is in the muscles of his belly.

17``He makes his tail stand up like a cedar.

The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

18``His bones are like tubes of bronze.

His limbs are like bars of iron.

19~~He ranks first among the works/Ways of God/'El . . .

yet His maker can approach him in spite of his gigantic teeth.

20``The mountains yield him produce . . .

where all the beasts of the field play.

21``He lies down beneath the lotuses . . .

in the cover of the swamp reeds.

22``The shady trees/lotuses embower him with shade . . .

the willows of the brook surround him.

23``He can restrain the river from its rushing . . .

He is confident the stream/Jordan will gush at his command.

24``Can he be taken by his eyes?"
